BUILDING THE KINGDOM OF GOD ON EARTH
Operation In As Much
OIAM is an annual ministry blitz in which members First Missionary Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Smithfield collaborate in a plethora of ministry efforts over the course of a Saturday in the spring (usually in the month of April). The purpose of this event is to make a practical difference in the lives of community members in need and to allow a diverse body of Christians to come together and do ministry, thereby, increasing their impact and strengthening and building relationships.
Peter Taylor Community Garden
The Peter Taylor Community Garden is a local community asset which builds strong relationships, promotes healthy eating, increases food access and addresses the issue of poverty.
The "TO GO" Food Program
Led by FMBC's Heart to Heart Ministry, the To Go food program is an ongoing effort to supplement the food resources of those in need.
Wendell C. Somerville Lecture Series
The WCS Lecture Series attracts experts in the field of global missions to teach the Biblical mandate to engage in global missions, strategies for mobilizing communities to get involved, ways to leverage resources towards foreign missions and the practical implications of doing missions.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
Annually, FMBC honors the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The church hosts a community worship service on the national holiday and, in the preceeding days, performs community service commensurate with the legacy of activism and social justice left by Dr. King.
Each year, under the leadership of its Deaconess ministry, FMBC honors local high school graduates with a community worship service and awards for obtaining their high school diplomas. The service also celebrates the village by acknowledging the community of family, friends and advocates who support children through their formative academic careers.
